Beware a Scot Revenge School for Heiresses Book 3 Sabrina Jeffries 9781416516101 Books

When I first discovered this author I enjoyed her books, her cute and spunky heroines, her uncomplicated plots and equally uncomplicated characters. I knew this wasn't great literature, but it was a fun a relaxing escape and unwind from the real world. It was a pleasant trip from point A to point B with no bumps in the road and all ends neatly tied up at the end.
For some reason, I seem to have become bored with this formula. About 15 pages into this book, I had the feeling I'd read this one before. Maybe it was a reissue with a new cover? No, it's brand new. But here I am again, same one-dimensional heroine, same plot points, same silly predictability. It just doesn't seem as perky and refreshing as it did five Jeffries books ago.
If this is your first Jeffries book, you WILL enjoy it. If you've read a few before, then you've read this one.

Beware a Scot Revenge School for Heiresses Book 3 Sabrina Jeffries 9781416516101 Books Reviews

Lady Venetia Campbell's trip to her childhood home becomes much more than a trip down memory lane -she is kidnapped by Sir Lachlan Ross. Sir Lachlan is known throughout the countryside as The Scottish Scourge and is also Lady Venetia's father's sworn enemy.

Venetia remembers her former neighbor, Lachlan, as a handsome young man and the center of her romantic fantasies. Older and even more handsome, Lachlan is even more enticing. Dangerously so.

Although Lachlan wants to use Venetia to exact his revenge upon her father, his desire for Venetia grows. With vengeance within his grasp, Lachlan must chose between retribution and love.

I just adore this series. I am crazy mad for Lachlan. He is just melts my butter. Lachlan can kidnap me any day of the week and I'd happily surrender. Venetia is very lucky indeed!

Sabrina Jeffries books are auto-buys for me and I just snatched up Beware A Scot's Revenge. As with every School for Heiress novel, I closely follow the correspondence between Mrs. Harris and Cousin Michael. I am intrigued by the mysterious Cousin Michael and I can't wait for more!

One father screwed up, the other never talke about it. The son only knows his clan is broke, so he kidnaps daughter of other father. Problem, they are thankfully nothing like their fathers and so love follows. Could have been hotter in the ensuing action between the kids, but otherwise, as always with Sabrina Jeffries, a great book.
I gave it 4 stars because I liked other boos of her better, but then I have so many of hers already and I ill continue to all she writes.
Twenty-four year old Venetia Campbell loved all things Scottish. Her father, the Earl of Duncannon, although from Scotland, removed Venetia from their homeland when she was eight years old and never took her back. But... she's persuaded her father to allow her to travel to Edinburgh with her Aunt Maggie as chaperone by promising him she will accept a proposal within the year.

Venetia has no idea that her former neighbor, Lachlan Ross, and erstwhile enemy of her father has big plans for her which involve kidnapping and a journey deep into the Highlands. Lachlan's long time feud with the Earl of Duncannon is based on a debt the Earl owes Lachlan's family - 36,000 pounds - which he's never paid. Lachlan has seen his property fall into ruins, his tenants suffer and it's time for Duncannon to pay. Venetia will be the tool.

Once Lachlan manages to get Venetia away from her aunt and on the road to Scotland, the real fun begins. Venetia remembers the young Lachlan - in fact, she always had a crush on the 16 year old boy she remembers from her youth with his tall rangy body and wild ways. She's furious that he's kidnapped her and doesn't believe his tales about her father. Although attracted to Venetia, he has to continually remind himself she's his enemy's daughter.

But, love will win out and somewhere along the way, Venetia decides they must pretend to be married in order for her reputation to survive the madness of the kidnapping. This has the effect of driving Lachlan over the top because he doesn't know how he will manage to sleep in the same room with her. Lots of fun stuff going on here and eventually they arrive at Rosscraig, Lachlan's home. There are secrets which must be revealed between the two families before long held animositiesy can be brought down. But... can Lachlan's and Venetia's relationship survive once their parents' secrets are revealed? That is the question and the problem which eventually must be solved.

I didn't find Lachlan to be a typical Jeffries' hero type if there is such a type. He was not without his faults and flaws - not perfect by any means. Still, he was all the more attractive because he was a good and honorable man in spite of his flaws. In fact, he nearly lost his girl because of the way he thought about right and wrong. I liked him a lot and in the end, he made all the right choices.
The lady Venitia has finally met her match. What I love best about this book is that Ms. Jeffries took it outside of London to show a little more of Regency Great Britain. Her descriptions of Scotland and the issues the landowners faced sucked me into the story, made it earthy and real. I love that Venitia is smart as hell, but not cold because of it. And I love that as hard as Lachlan tries to play the bad guy, his deep sense of honor won't let him go too far, no matter how much he wants to. Their story was rich, compelling, and thoroughly engaging.

The one slight issue I had was the letters between Mrs. Harris and cousin Michael. In the previous books of this series, these letters usually focused on the main couple and added to the story as a whole. In this one, Mrs. Harris and Michael start this weird argument that pulled attention away from Venitia and Lachlan but didn't give enough to bring the other couple into focus. I found them a little distracting and frustrating. I am eager for those two to have a story of their own, but not sure if the method did it justice in this case. Looking forward to more from this series.
