I started with Shuffled Off, and wanted to read more from this author. I am tired of "the usual" storylines, retold with a few variations. These books ask questions, present situations that should interest all of us. The theme doesn't challenge my faith. Instead the stories are charming and interesting. I'm going to read the rest of the stories written by Robert J. McCarter.
I am very excited to read this book. I read his first book and loved it so much that when I heard this one was for sale I went right in to buy it. I am writing this review now because I am so excited. I will write another after I finish!
I am a fan of Robert J. McCarter's writing style and character development. Having read Shuffled Off 1 and 2, and loved them, I was delighted to read (couldn't put the book down!) Drawing the Dead. This is a unique story that captured my attention and didn't let it go. Very well written, definitely worth the read.

Wow!....Wow! I hardly even know where to start on this review of "Drawing the Dead".
Do you know those books that you read and then they stay with you long after you read the last page and regretfully close the book? Well this is one of those books for me. It's day's after I finished it and I still find it popping into my thoughts at odd times.
Honestly, I'm in awe of Mr. McCarter's imagination. I mean, how do you imagine something like this? Someone with special abilities who draws a picture of someone's dead loved one and brings that drawing to life? Well, no matter how he thought of it Robert McCarter has done an amazing job of bringing that idea to life. These character's (alive and dead) came to life on the pages for me. I loved Viki and I was so happy to see old friend's like JJ, Jesus and Banquo in cameo's )

Folks, DO read all of these books (Shuffled Off, To Be a Fool and Drawing the Dead! They are WONDERFUL! You'll want to hug, shake, cheer on and shout at these characters. They are SO real, you'll imagine them as part of your life. Your family. You'll want to continue to follow them. I'm sure of it )
Lightning!
I wasn’t sure lightning would strike twice. So, when I picked up Robert J. McCarter’s Drawing The Dead, I was afraid I wouldn’t love it as I much as I had loved Shuffled Off, the first book of his that I had the great pleasure of reading. Wow, was I wrong! Again, I relished the precise details, the just-right narrative voice, and the clear acknowledgement of the epic, seen and lived through ordinary eyes. For me, it was a realistic portrayal of what it’s like to be someone who has a confusingly unusual ability that people sometimes dismiss and sometimes seem in awe of. Even though this book is complete unto itself, I craved more because I had completely fallen in love with the main character. So... I went into and read samples of every one of Robert’s books. The voice. Distinct for each character, while letting the story tell itself. Not gritty, not lyrically glamorized, you just feel like you’re there listening.Yep, I’m a believer now. I will be reading them all. Top of my list.
